Community Of Online Pinoys

A lot of Filipino bloggers has already blogged about their disgust of the “Book Blockade of 2009”. There is also an existing petition group in Facebook about this topic which has garnered 12,000+ supporters. And finally, after 3 or 4 months, we had a somewhat success. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has ordered the rescinding of the taxation.

Senator Antonio Trillanes never had a lot of chance to campaign physically for his senatorial bid last 2007 elections. He instead used friendster and other web related means for campaign. And yet he won.

These examples should be enough proof that we, the online community of Filipinos, can make a difference.

These triumphs, however, are few and far between. If only we can have a group of Filipino online goers where we can do petitions like this on a regular basis, where we can affect the outcome of elections, where we are an important society that politicians would seek our approval or endorsement, then maybe, we can make a lot of change in our country.
