Eyeshield 21 Review

For some anime/manga fans, this isn’t anything new but because there are a lot of people who are not as updated to new anime that is now shown on their local TV. Take Naruto for example. Today, everyone who loves anime knows what Naruto is. But for almost a year before its release in Philippine television, we have copies of this anime. When another group of anime downloader wanted to trade anime series with us, we recommended Naruto to them. They turned us down, choosing instead our Chobits series. After the series was shown on the local channels, they’ve regretted their decision.

Now Eyeshield 21 is an anime about American Football. Now some of us are turned off with sports anime featuring sports that we are not interested. Though some people who didn’t like basketball loved Slam-dunk, this is a rare occurrence. In my opinion though, Eyeshield 21 is pretty much like Slam-dunk in terms that you would still watch it even though you don’t give a damn about American Football. The series has a better character development than that of Slam-dunk and almost all characters have a unique story. Not just the generic I-want-to-win attitude but their own unique dream.

So as not to spoil too much of the story, I will just summarize the first chapter and hope that it would be enough to kindle some interest.

The story is about Sena who just entered Deimon High. Sena was short and thin and was often bullied. He was an errand boy during his junior high. Because of always running on errands from bullies, he developed a unique running skill that allows him to make impossible cuts when running through a crowd at high speed. Harima, Deimon High demonic student and American football team captain, saw Sena’s talent while Sena was avoiding bullies. Harima (forcibly) convinced Sena to join the Deimon Devilbats, Deimon’s American Football team as the team’s runningback.

I’m not sure how many episodes has been translated and/or released but last I checked the latest scanlated chapter is at 208.

Well that’s it for today. I hope you read this manga and enjoy it as much as I do.
