2010: Presidential Election Review Part 1

The 2010 presidential election is about 8 months away. We have several personalities who has declared their desire to run for the presidency.

On this post is the list of known hopefuls (known to me, at least) and what my opinion on each of them. Of course, you may agree or disagree. You may post your opinions on the comment area and I will approve all of it. Just keep it civil, remember, name-calling and such is the lowest form of debate often used by neanderthals, LOL.

Anyway, here’s the list and why and why not I will vote for them. Let’s start first with those who are 100% sure of running:

Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino III: An unexpected candidate who was pushed by several of Cory’s allies and other political figures to run for presidency during the mourning period of President Cory’s death. Running under the Liberal Party, Noynoy has been a congressman for several years now and has been a senator for one term.

Why I would vote for him:

  • will most likely sue GMA and the rest of her family members and cronies.
  • is carrying the good name of his father and would most likely do everything not to taint it.
  • will most likely not pardon GMA, her family members, and cronies should they be found guilty in court.

Why I wouldn’t vote for him:

  • Lack of experience. The only reason I’m voting for him is because of his moral fiber.

Joseph “Erap” Estrada: Former president. Convicted of  plunder by the Sandiganbayan. Accepted GMA’s offer of pardon effectively admitting to the crime though you’ll hear him say that he is innocent, go figure. Popular with the masses who see him as a hero in his fairy tale movies.

Why I would vote for him:

  • I have no idea

Why I wouldn’t vote for him:

  • In GMA’s debt for the pardon granted upon him a millisecond after being sentenced and has effectively avoided a single minute of jail time for the entire duration of the trial.
  • Has no firm stand in what he advocates. He was against the military bases back in late 80s and early 90s and yet signed the VFA during his term as president. Has stated that he will run for president if the opposition doesn’t support a single candidate and when opposition presidential hopefuls are making way for Noynoy, he still pushes through with his desire to run.
  • During his term, I couldn’t remember if he did any permanent solution to poverty. All he did for the poor is to give away 500 to 1000 pesos during his visits to oppressed areas. Unfortunately, they love him for this.
  • If he wins this election, then I, who always speaks out against those who says that we are the worst country, might finally agree with them.

Manny Villar: True to life rags to riches. My original choice for the coming election had Noynoy not run.

Why I would vote for him:

  • was poor on most of his early life but has become a billionaire, this man knows the formula of success which he MAY be able to share with us.
  • Has pretty much avoided much corruption controversies except of course that highway made in Cavite going towards his subdivision.
  • Was instrumental in the fast tracking of the impeachment trial of Erap.

Why I wouldn’t vote for him:

  • I am not sure whether he will sue GMA, his family members, and cronies for corruption when he becomes the chief executive.

Gilberto Teodoro Jr: Current secretary of national defense and has been a congressman for 9 years.

Why I would vote for him:

  • As far as I know, he has not been involved in any major controversies.

Why I would not vote for him:

  • I doubt that he will ever sue GMA, his family members, and cronies of corruption.

So there you have it. I will be updating this post as soon as other candidates has express their 100% desire to run.

To everyone please vote in the coming election, whoever your candidate is. If you’re wondering what can you do to help our country, start by making your votes count.
